Give Yourself Permission

HOW CAN YOU CREATE SPACE TO FEEL GROUNDED AMIDST COLLECTIVE CHAOS?

It’s a great thing that simple actions can provide us spaciousness and grounding. This week I’m focused on creating space to ground AND room for fun. I announced to my husband I was taking a vacation day in the middle of the week, he looked at me surprised and said, ‘I didn’t realize we could do that’. Exactly! Sometimes we just need to give ourselves permission. Something we both realized we needed. All work and no play - well, we all know where that leads.

While a vacation (or staycation) is an obvious way to create space and have fun, there are simple things we can do every day or every week to feel grounded and invite joy. My favorite thing to do these days is to walk down to the river and sit for 20 or 30 minutes. I love the river - it’s a great source of power, grounding, and introspection for me. I get to sit there and do nothing and I love it. Choose your own own flavor of this - a solo walk, sitting by the pool for 20 minutes (or all day), enjoying a coffee in a favorite spot, and so on. What is one simple thing you can do this week to create space and invite joy?

Give yourself permission.

Sometimes, actually most of the time, the only thing holding us back is ourselves. We, as humans, can unknowingly create barriers to spaciousness and joy. The power of permission. When you shift your mindset from what I should do, have to do, and need to do INTO a question of what do I want to do and what’s actually possible? - you give yourself permission to break out of the mental box you've built for yourself. The time it actually takes to create spaciousness and joy is small, it could be a simple moment in time. If you want to invite spaciousness and joy into your life (or anything else for that matter), start by giving yourself permission.
