Societal Dysfunction & Resilient Containers

NOW MORE THAN EVER WE MUST BUILD RESILIENCE.

Resilience is founded on transparent processes, accessibility to resources for ALL, and equitable power dynamics. Welcome to my resilience coaching practice, where we work together to embolden your personal and professional growth.

As we live through a global pandemic, the amplification of horrific systemic racial injustice, and the dangers of unbridled (and uneducated) political power - we are being called on to be more resilient - to pause, adapt, and thrive. I believe that Black Lives Matter, are valuable, and enrich our communities. I believe that everyone has the right to be free, to be respected and that it is our duty as a community to support the enrichment of those who have been marginalized by systemic injustice.

As we go through these tumultuous times, I am hopeful that the tides are changing towards a more resilient future.

The more resilient we are as individuals, the more resilient we will be as a community. It’s true that by taking care of ourselves we are better able to support our loved ones, contribute to our communities, and thrive overall. Societal dysfunction stems from the pain and fear of its community members AND the lack of personal resilience in its leaders.


So, how can we take steps to increase our own personal resilience right now? My resilience goal for the week is to strengthen my boundaries around the things I do that make up my beautiful life. Amidst the chaos, my ‘containers’ (relationship, work, play, self-care and exercise, music, gardening, friends & family, and QT with my pup) have changed form. Over the last 4 months of quarantine, emotional social uprising, and political divisiveness – it’s understandable that new boundaries and even new containers want to take shape. It’s time for a personal reorg! I’m excited to dive in, reshape, and enable spaciousness.

Why do my containers matter so much? It’s important to realize that our day-to-day experiences are a reflection of our personal ecosystem and that our lives are made up of a system of interwoven thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Our personal ecosystem (how we process all of this) dictates how we relate to the world. By setting up resilient boundaries and agreements with ourselves and others, we create ‘containers’ from which we can operate in integrity. This is increasingly important with the nature of the world right now as we try to sift through, find our place, and thrive amidst the chaos.

What are some examples of resilient containers? Resilient containers can be set times during the day that we reserve to do the things that matter. Another form of a container is the tangible ways we interact, make decisions, and relate to the world. Containers are built to be flexible - as all things resilient are adaptable. Both types of resilient containers have the same construction built from the clarity, intention, and alignment that allows us to flourish. Practicing one builds muscle memory to form the deeper, more interpersonal containers.

By building resilient containers we can operate from a place of deep integrity and offer ourselves to the world in a more authentic and grounded way.
